For nearly 30 years, Shelby County high school sophomores have had the opportunity to apply for and participate in the Young Leaders Institute. This highly competitive program gives students a firsthand look at the people, places, and organizations shaping Shelby County while helping them build the skills and confidence to become future leaders.
Each month, students take part in a day-long field trip focused on a different sector of the community, including tourism, healthcare, manufacturing, agriculture, and more. Along the way, they meet local business and community leaders, explore innovation and growth opportunities, and learn about the challenges and strengths that define Shelby County.
Who Can Apply
Applications are open to public, private, and homeschool students. The selection process considers academic achievement, community service, and recommendations from school and business leaders.
