What is the Chamber? The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary non-profit organization. We are business and professional people who recognize our stake in this community and have joined together to advance and enhance it. We coordinate ideas, energy, and financial resources to accomplish collectively what none of us could accomplish individually Why Join the Chamber? There are many benefits in supporting the Chamber with your membership. Some of these benefits include: Business Exposure - Chamber membership expands your network of customers and suppliers Business Referrals - Our Chamber staff answers over 1,000 inquiries each year for referrals of products and services. And only member companies are referred. Information Services - Our staff maintains statistical data to meet most business needs. When you join the Chamber, that service is yours at no additional cost. Credibility - Numerous consumer surveys have shown that customer perceptions are enhanced by Chamber of Commerce membership. Membership decals and use of the logo in advertising are available to all members at no additional cost. Promotion - We promote our community to potential residents who become customers, clients, and workforce for your business. Educational Opportunities - The Chamber, in cooperation with area educational institutions and business resource centers, sponsor seminars and training sessions as the need arises. Gift Certificate Program Participants Executive Board/Finance Committee Mission Statement: Implement policy and business plans, responsibly manage finances, maintain a balanced budget and oversee staff and programs. Goals : Efficiently manage internal Chamber issues. Find synergies for alliances with other organizations to accomplish goals and reduce redundancy. Encourage diversity within membership and directors. Commerce Enhancement Corporation Mission Statement: To act as a conduit for monetary distributions to charitable, religious, educational, scientific, and community enhancement organizations that do not qualify as tax exempt under the Internal Revenue code. The Commerce Enhancement Corporation is a subsidiary corporation of the Chamber of Commerce. Originally established for the benefit of the Leadership Shelby program, the corporation now acts to serve the community through its tax-exempt status. The Board of Directors for the Commerce Enhancement Corporation is comprised of the members of the Executive Board plus the Executive Director. Education Committee Mission Statement : Identify and support educational opportunities and disseminate information to enhance commerce and economic opportunities in Shelby County . Programs: Scholarship Program: Promote career and technical education by awarding scholarships to students pursuing higher education who intend to work in Shelby County . Workforce Development Program: Identify training needs of business, industry, and agriculture and develop programs to meet those needs. Partners in Education: Provide business links to offer financial, professional and/or educational support for students and students' programs. Young Leaders Institute: Work with select group of Shelby County 8 th and 10 th graders to interact with community leaders to develop skills necessary to become leaders of tomorrow. Education Marketing: Promote Education Committee Programs and the need for quality education to our community, students and parents through all available media with an emphasis on the value of career and technical education. Brain Gain: Maintain a partnership with this regional alliance that is our region's one-stop database for employment solutions, which assists individuals at all career levels interested in working in our area. Marketing/Promotion Committee Mission Statement: Promote and advertise the goals, programs and membership of the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce. Programs: Business Plan: Communicate and promote the goals and activities of the various Chamber committees to current and potential members. Promotion: Put the Chamber's name and promotion behind the "Shop Shelby County First" program to ask local residents to shop at home before they consider buying elsewhere. Business Relocation Subscription Program: Provide program participants with a monthly list of individuals interested in relocating to Shelby County. Shelby County Magazine : Publication that provides a community profile and serves as a relocation magazine. Shelby County Map : Map and guide of Shelby County Newsletter & Newspaper Articles: Publish the Chamber newsletter and use the free column space provided by the Sentinel-News monthly to promote the Chamber. Membership Directory: Publish and distribute the annual directory of Chamber membership. Membership Committee Mission Statement : Promote Chamber goodwill to our community and grow our membership. Programs : Membership Drive: Campaign to retain current membership and encourage new members. Get to Know Your Chamber: Educate new and prospective members of the benefits of belonging to the Chamber. Diplomat's Club: Spokespersons for the Chamber, within the community and Chamber membership. Community Concerns: Provide information and contacts to assist concerned membership in resolution of community issues. Program/Services Committee Mission Statement: Promote the chamber through informational events and provide membership opportunities to get their business name out in Shelby County and network with other business leaders. Programs: Taste of Shelby : Annual business meeting and fundraiser that features area food service professionals. Quarterly Luncheons: Guest speaker invited to discuss current issues. Day at the Races: A social day for membership at Churchill Downs. Day at the Ballpark: A social day for membership at Louisville Slugger Field. Community Showcase: Opportunity for chamber members to market their products and services to other businesses and the public at a community expo. Gift Certificate Program: Chamber sells gift certificates to promote shopping with chamber members in the retail/service business. Business After Hours: Opportunity for members to promote their business by inviting other businesses into theirs for monthly networking event. Network at Noon: Quarterly luncheon that allows members to introduce their business/organization to others and share suggestions and ideas with the Chamber President and staff. Greater Lousiville, Inc.: Partnership allows Chamber members to join GLI at a reduced rate and receive networking opportunities, business enhancement, cost savings strategies, and numerous resources The Chamber is always happy to hear from members and the community.
